Origin: They are found in mainly the Northern Hemisphere, but a few have been found in South Africa and Australia. They are more likely to be found in highly populated urban areas. It was first described scientifically by French botanist Jean Baptiste Francois Pierre Bulliard in 1786.
Definition: Coprinopsis atramentaria, also known as the ink cap or inky cap mushroom, appears to be a mushroom dripping with ink as it decays to spread its spores. The ink can be used to write with and the mushroom is edible unless combined with alcohol—then it becomes poisonous.
