Story:
Aliya Ramirez was born to a lower-middle class family. While her parents couldn't afford paper books, Aliya easily accessed the information she needed via electronic devices, often using the computers at the public library. As a child her favorite stories were of those about faraway worlds, of wondrous alien planets and species far different from her home. This passion inspired her to pursue astronomy in her schooling. She worked as a waitress for 2 years to save up for tuition, and continued to work full-time in addition to a full semester's schedule just to meet rent and school dues. Her hard work paid off, however, and she eventually got her doctorate in cosmology. She now makes a healthy salary helping manage and teach classes for the astronomy department at Sermos University, and her accrued wealth allows her to build a paper book collection on her favorite subject.
When she first started her teaching position at Sermos University, she inherited an office that contained a small bookshelf with various paper books on constellations. A tiny purple Paralogos named Celeste managed this collection, one that had no caretaker and only stayed for the books. She bonded with Dr. Ramirez soon afterwards. A few months later, Aster and Theia stumbled upon the school grounds while fleeing their old caretakers. Dr. Ramirez happily took them under her wing. Vela joined the family not long afterward. Dr. Kara Stern was hand-raised by Dr. Ramirez for a senior capstone project, and the pair have stayed together ever since.
